Top amateur jockey and horse betting favourite Isabel Tompsett is in a critical condition after falling from her horse at Fakenham on Sunday.

The amateur jockey Champion was riding Leopold for David Thompson when she was thrown off her horse and taken to a nearby hospital with serious head injuries.

Thompson spoke out about Tompsett’s injuries and revealed that it was a very “worrying” time for her friends and family.

"As far as I know she stopped breathing twice and needed to be resuscitated.” He said earlier this week.

"At the minute she is stable and breathing of her own accord. It's a very worrying time." He added.

Tompsett, a champion female amateur over jumps last year and one of the favourites with horse bets to repeat the feat this year, is expected to pull through but her condition remains critical at this time.

Lisa Hancock of the injured jockey’s fund spoke of Tompsett’s injuries and said that she had transferred to a different hospital last night.

“Isabel was transferred last night to the neuro-trauma high care unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.” She explained.

"She is in a critical condition but will receive the best care possible at Addenbrooke's. Her mother and family are with her." She added.

Meanwhile Racing trainer Tim Vaughan expressed his concern and insisted that everybody in racing was fully supporting her on the road to recovery.

"Seeing someone like Isabel who we all know in Wales...in this sort of condition is absolutely frightening," he said.
